Keno Burckhardt

Reflection:
Answer the following questions. Remember, this will help me understand your design while I grade your project.

Describe your process. How was the process helpful or not so helpful to you? Show us your brainstorming ideas and thumbnail sketches. How did you arrive with your concept/idea for your letter? Did the peer feedback help? Show us your brainstorming ideas, thumbnail sketches, and two drafts.

What did you do to represent your concept visually in your design? (Give 2 examples and post close up and full design images)

What was the most challenging aspect of this project for you? Why?

Are you satisfied with your project?   Explain your answer.

If you can change anything about your design, what would you change or do different

1. My process: At first my thumbnail sketches were very flowy and I freehanded it, however when I started to draw my final I used a ruler to be more precise. This changed the dynamic of my piece completely. It became less about the musicality and more about the instrument itself. In short, my process changed the theme/vibe of my piece.  Peer feedback didn't help at all because I knew from the start exactly what I wanted to portray.

2. The most challenging part of the project was using time efficiently. I had a ton of time consuming sketching to do before anything else. I had to measure out each length and make sure it was the same as the other little cylinders. This took so much time that I was left with very little to color and prefect the drawing.
3. I am pretty satisfied with my project. I love the vibe it gives off because it reminds me of Peru, however I think it could really be made better with more detailing and outlining the blue background.
4. If I could change anything about my design I would add yarn strings on the instrument to make the drawing more complex. I like it but I would definitely like to see more overlapping of the individual bamboo reeds and the woven yarn. Otherwise I like the outcome.
5. (which is actually #2 I skipped it). I used the Zampona, which is a pan flute type thing native to Peru and neighboring South American countries. I shaped the Zampona into the shape of a Z. This was harder than it looked bc I had to conceive what length each connecting reed would be because some lengths had to be different. I also used a lot of color in the yarn to communicate the warmth and happiness of the Peruanos I met in Peru.
